Mognola

Located at an altitude of 2003 meters, Lake Mognola is nestled in the captivating alpine landscape of Lavizzara. Surrounded by majestic gray giants such as Pizzo Campo Tencia (the highest mountain entirely within the Ticino region, reaching 3071 meters), Pizzo Croslina, and Pizzo Rüscada, to name a few, it's a historically rich place ideal for relaxation and immersing oneself in tranquility and nature. With well - laced hiking boots and a backpack on your shoulders, follow the signs leading to Lake Mognola. The ascent, at times long and steep, is made easier by the mountain trail marked in white - red - white. Crossing the larch forest, you reach Corte Mognola, where the Farm of Memory awaits: a small hut that narrates the history of the alpine pasture through photos, objects, and informative panels. To reach the lake, you'll need to drive to Mogno (an hour and thirty minutes from Bellinzona and two hours from Lugano) and then take the trail for about two hours - Lake Mognola is characterized by currents that allow excellent water mixing, making it a fabulous destination for fishing. The lake shores are perfect for camping overnight in a tent.
